Jo Ludbrook’s love of textiles can be traced back to the cradle. She still has a remnant of the finely woven pale-pink security blanket she loved as a baby in Australia. This traveled with her through fashion college and art school, and all the way to England when she married and moved to Norfolk in 2003.
A keen collector of textiles old and new, Jo brought to East Anglia only her favourite materials, her design knowledge and her indubitable panache. Here she has built upon the business that thrived in Australia - designing and making unique cushions for top department stores in Sydney, Melbourne and Hong Kong - and now works exclusively for private clients.
Although each design is a one-off it can be ordered in pairs or sets, and occasionally Jo will produce a series such as those inspired by the circus or marine life. She only uses the finest materials, often mixing vintage fabrics, silk, velvet, mother-of-pearl buttons and luxurious trimmings. Bright colours and rich textures are her calling card.
“Because I also make church vestments people have started to give me unusual and precious pieces. Remnants of ecclesiastical textiles, ancient tapestries, vintage kimonos and christening robes often find their way onto my cushions.”
